Handbags in the parlour

Why does the Queen have a handbag over her arm, in her own front room?

If you saw the size of my handbags you would know how stupid this would look in my house if I greeted someone in the same way, however, what on earth does she keep in it?

Perhaps it's to store her iPod which Mr Obama kindly gave her.

Her keys of course. Without it she wouldn't be able to get back into Buckingham Palace after a night on the town.
