I have been asked why I am so cross at Sir Patrick’s de-selection.

 

Because I was brought up to respect my elders. Because I know and value the worth of wisdom and knowledge. Because I think when someone gives thirty seven years excellent service that should be acknowledged, rewarded and respected. Because the people of South Staffordshire voted resoundingly to return him as their MP with one of the biggest swings in the country endorsing his record.

 

Because he is a man with personality, individuality, and humour - we have too few of those in the Commons and plenty of starched suits.

 

Because I want to be part of a society which is not ageist or prejudicial in anyway against anyone, but is tolerant of all.

 

Because the House of Commons is a better place for his being there.

I'm glad to have found your website via Iain Dale's blog, Ms Dorries. Well done, you talk a huge lot of sense.

Frankly this blog is tremendous. It's so refreshing to have an MP who talks sense and isn't full of the usual...

Nadine - as I said on Iain Dale's blog, I think you're brilliant, brave and I was sad to have moved out of you constituency last year! (And not to have joined the party while I was living there, though I have now. It is a funny beast though, isn't it?!)

Look, don't you think if South Staffs CA, having had Cormack as MP for nearly 40 years, vote to deselect him they might not just be doing it for a laugh or out of "disrespect." It is remiss of you to go interfering in their affairs which you seem to know little of beyond your knowledge of Cormack in the Commons. If he ignores his constituency then it is time to go.

Loyalty and common decency should count for something too.
