Wixams Landfill - Meeting with FCC
Posted Tuesday, 22 January 2013 at 17:31
Yesterday I met with representatives from FCC, the company that has applied for permission to build a new waste-management facility near Wixams in my constituency. I then instructed my office to send out this press release:

"Nadine Dorries, Member of Parliament for Mid-Bedfordshire, today held a meeting in her Westminster office with FCC Environment (UK), the company responsible for the application to run a waste management facility near Elstow in Bedfordshire.

The next step of the application will be a roundtable meeting on 11th February when Nadine and local residents will be able to put their questions to the management of FCC and senior members of Central Bedfordshire Council.

Nadine was interested to hear that the landfill site at Brogborough was taking approximately 2 million tons of waste a year during the 1980s, while the Elstow site will only take a maximum of 40,000 tons a year.

Nadine said, “While I was pleased to hear that this proposal is for a small-scale waste management facility, I remain concerned about the proximity of the site to people’s houses and the potential effects on the future of the Wixams development. The voices of local people must be heard in planning the future of their communities.”
